We have all heard the phrase, ‘House of Cards’. Well, this is a ‘House of Wax’, painted outside my house on a sunny afternoon. The beautiful smell of warm beeswax, a soft breeze and a perfect spring day are now the memories I can add to the one of seeing this house while on a ramble with friends. This is the last of a short series on the theme of a blue house by the sea. Encaustic (meaning to ‘burn in’) wax painting is a recently rediscovered ancient medium, producing translucent, ‘just got to touch it’ surfaces lasting centuries in some instances. What a fitting way to finally ‘seal’ my memory of that time…with wax.
